Seven Principles of Crunchkin Aesthetics

Number ONE. Serendipity: the "one off" quality is music's chief feature..."(Michael Vicario-Penn State). Emphasis on unique, unrepeatable riffs. Avant-Garde. Unfinalizability

Number TWO. Polyrhythmic Percussion-emphasis on odd percussive tracks, complex meter. Emphasis on acoustic drum sounds.

Number THREE. Idiosyncratic Instrumentation: Use of "found" instrumental voices (a la Cage and Stockhausen). Odd instrumental juxtaposition-ex. harpsichord and fuzz strat, wind chimes.

Number FOUR.Melody: Despite the use of noise and atonality, there is nonetheless a lyrical melody to be heard which is beautiful---at least an aspiration to beautiful music. This opens up the door for sublimity.

Number FIVE:Follow your Muse, believe in your Genius! Aim high, attempt the impossible. Create a new genre, a whole new musical expression.

Number SIX. Vocal experimentation and and alteration of vocals. This applies to unusual lyrical content (dictionary, scripture, indirect references to lyrical and musical heroes, children rhymes, the daily news, etc...)

Number SEVEN. Refer to aesthetics of The Rhumba.
